SDS Testing Center Health & Safety Information

The Student Disability Services (SDS) Testing Center has implemented health and safety protocols to protect students, staff, and faculty members. Plexiglass barriers have been installed in each of the offices and at proctors’ desks. Desk assignments will be alternated to allow for safe physical distancing. Staff will disinfect all spaces after use. Common areas and frequently touched surfaces will be disinfected throughout the day. Hand sanitation and face coverings will be available for anyone who requires them. The entrance door will remain locked to maintain appropriate physical distancing. We encourage students, faculty, and staff to practice physical distancing inside buildings and to wash hands frequently throughout the day.

PLEASE NOTE: The SDS Testing Center Guidelines are subject to change as additional information and public health recommendations are available. Changes will be posted to the SDS website (https://sds.olemiss.edu/) and emailed to faculty and students.

Communication is Key

Communication between instructors, students, and SDS is critical to ensuring that approved accommodations are provided in a reasonable and timely manner. Students are strongly encouraged to maintain contact with their course instructors and contact the SDS-Martindale office (662-915-7128) or the SDS Testing Center (662-915-2514) for support or guidance.

Students-Be Proactive!

NOTE: The SDS Testing Center is operating at a 45% capacity. Due to limited space availability, all appointment requests will be approved on a first come first served basis. If the Testing Center is full at the time or date requested, one of the Testing Center staff members will contact the course instructor and ask to reschedule the test. If the test cannot be rescheduled, the course instructor will be responsible for providing your testing accommodations.

Using the SDS Testing Center

Approved testing accommodations will be provided in a manner that fits the design of the course while practicing health and safety protocols. Only students who meet the following criteria will test at the SDS Testing Center:
  • Students enrolled in a traditional (in-person) class and/or hybrid class that administers paper-based tests.
  • Students approved for adaptive software or technology (e.g., screen readers, text magnifiers, speech-to-text or text-to-speech).
  • Students approved for exam readers or scribes.
Tests will be scheduled through the Rebel Access portal at https://sds.olemiss.edu/rebel-access-portal.

SDS Testing Center: Check-In Process

    1. Please arrive 10 minutes before your exam is scheduled to begin. Because of COVID-19 safety protocols, test check-in will be completed virtually through Rebel Access.
    2. The following QR code is posted on flyers in the hallway at the SDS Testing Center and on the Student Disability Services website. Hover the mobile phone camera over the QR code to begin the check-in process.
SDS Testing Center QR Code
  1. Students will be prompted to sign in to their Rebel Access profile, and fill out a brief contact information form. A Testing Center staff member will call or text the student to confirm arrival.
  2. The entrance to the SDS Testing Center will remain locked. Once we are notified a student has arrived, a member of the testing staff will meet you at the door to complete the check-in process.
  3. Students are required to maintain a 6-foot physical distance. Students must use good judgement to avoid crowding one another when transiting hallways, stairwells, doorways, sidewalks, etc.
  4. Facial coverings are required at all times, including while taking a test. If you do not have a facial covering, one will be provided.
  5. Students are expected to bring their own testing supplies. To maintain safety protocols, students are expected to bring their own writing utensils, Scantrons, blue books, etc.
  6. Please have a valid photo identification ready (e.g., Ole Miss Student ID, driver’s license, etc.) upon check-in. Exams will not be administered without proper identification. We will not accept your mobile phone as a form of ID.
Students Taking Online Tests

Online tests that do not require adaptive software, adaptive technology, or test readers will not be administered through the SDS Testing Center. Course instructors will be responsible for providing testing accommodations (e.g., extended time) for online classes. Students will choose their own distraction-reduced testing environment, unless otherwise specified by the course instructor. Requests for paper-based tests in online classes will not be provided unless it is an approved accommodation.

Any student taking an online class can reserve a space for testing at the Distance Education Testing Lab (DETL) at the JAC. This will allow students with weak internet, loud roommates, shared space, etc. to have a good place to take a test. Students will use the regular DETL scheduler and choose Fall 2020 Lab Usage Reservation. DETL has limited space so students should schedule tests as soon as possible: http://online.olemiss.edu/testschedule/index.html.

Faculty Guidelines

The SDS Testing Center wants to assure faculty that our office remains available to provide support, ensuring students receive approved testing accommodations. In compliance with social distancing protocols, the SDS Testing Center is operating at 45% capacity. The following guidelines will be observed until the University is able to resume normal operations:

  • Instructors teaching in-person and/or hybrid classes with paper-based tests must log in to their Rebel Access Instructor Portal and complete a Testing Agreement Form for each class. The SDS Testing Center cannot approve space reservations for students until the Testing Agreement is completed.
  • In the event the Testing Center has reached maximum capacity, instructors must either allow students to take their test at a later time, or provide the approved accommodations and proctor their own exam. If a test is schedule for a later date, instructors must provide the same test that was administered to the rest of the class.
  • Test reading services for online and remote classes will be provided remotely. Students will log on to their exam and share their computer screen with one of the SDS staff members via Zoom. Students taking tests on paper who require test readers may use the SDS Testing Center. Staff will maintain appropriate physical distance while providing reading services.
  • Please contact the SDS Testing Center at 662-915-2514 or email sdstesting@olemiss.edu for assistance or further guidance.
Testing Agreement Directions

All tests must be uploaded through your Rebel Access instructor portal. Exams delivered in-person will not be accepted in an effort to decrease traffic flow in the testing center. If you are unable to upload the exam in AIM, you may upload through Secure Document Exchange or, on a case by case basis, email the test to sdstesting@olemiss.edu. Please be aware that emailing tests is not a secure method of sending sensitive material, and SDS is not liable for any security breaches.

Providing Accommodations for Online Tests

Online tests that do not require adaptive software, adaptive technology, or test readers will not be administered through the SDS Testing Center. Course instructors will be responsible for providing testing accommodations (e.g., extended time) for online classes. Students will choose their own distraction-reduced testing environment, unless otherwise specified by the course instructor. Requests for paper-based tests in online classes will not be provided unless it is an approved accommodation.

Test Pick-Up

When picking up completed exams, instructors or their department designee must contact testing staff at 662-915-2514 upon their arrival to inform us what department you are picking up for. In an effort to decrease traffic flow, we ask that you send one authorized person to pick up for the entire department if possible. The designated person will be responsible for returning tests back to faculty within the department. We are also able to scan tests on a case by case basis. Please be advised that all visitors will be required to wear a mask or face covering and provide photo identification before being permitted to pick up exams.
