Rebel Access Tutorials For Student Users
General Information: Navigating Your Dashboard
Required Forms (Also called E-Forms): These are forms you are REQUIRED to acknowledge before you can access your portal Dashboard. The forms are related to various functions of your registration with Student Disability Services or to specific accommodations. For instance, if you are eligible for accessible testing, you will be required to acknowledge an E-Form. Some E-Forms will require acknowledgement only once, while others may be required each term. Remember, you cannot access your Dashboard until the Required Forms are acknowledged.
- Overview: The Overview section of your Dashboard is where you will find your To Do List.
- SMS (Text Messaging): This is where you can sign up to receive text message reminders for appointments, test dates, etc.
- My Profile: Your personal information is listed here. You have the option to update your information, if necessary, through your university myOleMiss portal.
- Renew Accommodations or Request New Accommodations: If your accommodations are approved on an annual or temporary basis, you will apply to renew those accommodations by completing the application in this section. This application is also used if you want to request to add a new accommodation to the ones you are already approved to use.
- My Mailbox: All E-mails sent to you by SDS can be found here.
- Information Release Consents: This is where you can give SDS staff permission to talk with other people about issues that concern you.
- My Eligibility: This is the list of the accommodations you are eligible to receive.
- List Accommodations: This is where you will find your history of semester accommodation requests.
- Course Syllabus: If one of your course instructors has uploaded the course syllabus, you will find it here. You can upload your own syllabi if you choose.
- My Documents: Disregard this link.
- My E-Form Agreements: This is where you can find copies of all the E-Forms you have acknowledged.
PLEASE NOTE: There may be other buttons on your Dashboard if you are approved to use specific types of accommodations. If you are not approved for these accommodations, you will not see these buttons on your Dashboard. There are separate tutorials to help you access each of these specific processes.
- Alternative Testing: If you are taking your tests at the SDS Testing Center, you will schedule you tests here.
- Alternate Formats: You will request and receive your accessible format reading materials here.
- Notetaking Services: You will access your notes here.
- Deaf and Hard Of Hearing: You will find information about your interpreters and captionists here.
- Housing Accommodations: You will find information about your housing accommodations.
- Equipment Checked Out: If you qualify to use equipment provided by SDS (such as a portable CCTV or amplification device), information about that equipment is housed here.
Requesting Approved Accommodations
Logging into the Rebel Access Student Portal and Signing Required Forms
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal using your OleMiss Web ID and password.
- Once signed in, please, open, read and acknowledge the Required Forms.
NOTE: You must do this at the beginning of each semester to gain full access to the student portal. These agreements primarily pertain to the processes to be followed for certain accommodations.
Requesting Accommodations and Course Access Letters
At the beginning of each semester, you must specify the courses in which you may want to use accommodations, which then prompts the system to send course access letters to the corresponding instructors. Courses will be available in the Rebel Access Student Portal the day after you register for classes in the MyOleMiss Portal.
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Locate the My Accommodations sidebar menu, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen.
- Select the List Accommodations link, located within the My Accommodations sidebar.
- Under Step 1, use the checkboxes to select the courses in which you would like to request accommodations.
- Select the Step 2 link to customize your accommodations.
- Locate the Select Accommodations box, which is located beneath each individual course.
- Select the approved accommodations you wish to utilize for each individual course.
- All testing accommodations are grouped together as Testing Accommodations, but they will be listed in detail on the course access letter.
- If any of your accommodations appear to be missing or incorrect, please contact SDS at 662-915-7128 or sds@olemiss.edu.
- Select the Submit Accommodation Request link located at the bottom of the page.
NOTE: Within one business day, your instructor(s) will receive an email notification that includes each accommodation along with a brief description.
NEXT STEPS
Modify an Accommodation Request
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Choose My Dashboard from the menu on the left -hand side of the screen.
- A list of classes with accommodations already requested will be shown. On the gray bar with the name of your classes listed, click on Modify Request to the right of the screen.
- Select the box beside what accommodations you want to add or remove the check beside the accommodations you want to remove.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and choose Update Request.
Notetaking Services
Requesting a Notetaker
- If approved for the peer notetaking accommodation, select Notetaking Services as an accommodation in the courses in which you need a supplemental notetaker.
Confirming Requests for a Notetaker
- You will receive an email to confirm your need for a notetaker within 24 hours after the class starts, and once your Faculty Notification Letters are distributed. Please select Yes or No. A notetaker will not be assigned until you confirm your need for services.
- If you do not confirm or decline the need for a notetaker, you will receive an email reminder within 48 hours to confirm or decline your request.
- A final email reminder will be sent 48 hours after the first email reminder. Notetaking Services requests will be cancelled 48 hours after the final email reminder.
- If your request for Notetaking Services is cancelled due to no confirmation, you must call SDS and speak to one of the Notetaking Services coordinators.
- Once the Notetaking Services link has been selected, check to see that you are in the correct term.
- To request notetaking services, select the Confirm Now link for each course in which you would like a notetaker.
- After confirming the notetaking services request, SDS will work with your instructors to recruit a peer notetaker in the course. You will receive an email notification once a notetaker has been assigned. Please keep in mind that your identity is confidential. The notetaker will not know who receives supplemental notes.
Accessing Notes
- Once a notetaker is assigned to the course and has uploaded notes, you will be able to access the notes by selecting the Available Notes for Download.
- Once you have selected the Available Notes for Download link, a drop-down box will appear that lists the date in which the notes were taken. You may download the notes as needed by selecting the Download Note link located next to that individual note’s file.
- Once a notetaker has been assigned, please allow at least 48 hours after the course has ended for notes to appear. You may contact SDS Notetaking Services if any problems arise.
Next Steps
- Review notes on a regular basis.
- Notify SDS right away if you have any questions or concerns.
- Cancel your note taking request in the Rebel Access Student Portal if at any time you no longer require this accommodation for a course.
Alternative Testing
BEFORE Scheduling Quizzes, Tests, or a Final Exam (QTF) in the Rebel Access Student Portal
- Determine if QTFs are being administered online OR if everyone is taking them in person in class.
- Talk to your instructor if you have in-person QTFs to find out if they would like to provide the accommodations themselves OR if they are using the SDS Testing Center in Kinard Hall to provide your testing accommodations.
- Online QTFs will not be scheduled in SDS, as all students in the class will identify their own testing spot or test in the designated location specified in the course syllabus.
- While rare, if you utilize assistive technology that is not compatible with online exams or if you are approved to use a test reader or scribe, you can schedule your tests with the SDS Testing Center.
How to Schedule a Quiz, Test, or Final (QTF) at the SDS Testing Center
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Select the Alternative Testing link, located within the My Accommodations side bar, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen. If you do not see the Alternative Testing link, please contact SDS.
- Select the drop-down box within the Alternative Testing section and choose the course in which you would like to schedule the QTF.
- Once the course is selected, click the Schedule an Exam.
- If your professor has submitted an alternative testing agreement, the terms and conditions will appear at the top of the page. Please review, as your professor may have listed important details regarding QTFs for their course.
- After reviewing the terms and conditions of scheduling a QTF, scroll down and locate the Exam Detail section.
- Once located, you will need to complete the following fields:
- Request Type (quiz, test, or final).
- Date (date of the QTF that was approved by your professor).
- Time (time of the QTF that was approved by your professor).
- Select the accommodation(s) you would like to utilize for this QTF.
- Additional Note (optional field, you may enter in any information you believe to be relevant for the QTF like needing to take your test at a different time than when your class is taking the test because of a conflict with your class schedule (i.e. your extended testing time would overlap into your next class).
- Once the information is completed, select the Add Exam Request.
How to Modify a Quiz, Test, or Final (QTF)
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Select the Alternative Testing link, located within the My Accommodations side bar, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen. If you do not see the Alternative Testing link, please contact SDS.
- Locate the upcoming QTF request(s) for the current term section.
- QTFs will be listed in chronological order.
- Locate the scheduled QTF you would like to modify.
- Select the Modify Request link for the QTF you wish to edit.
- If your professor has submitted an alternative testing agreement, the terms and conditions will appear at the top of the page. Please review, as your professor may have listed important details regarding QTFs for their course. You will not be able to modify your exam if the professor has not submitted an Alternative Testing Agreement.
- Locate the Terms and Conditions of Modifying Exams section and carefully review the information.
- After reviewing the terms and conditions of scheduling a QTF, scroll down and locate the Exam Detail section.
- Once located, you will need to complete the following fields:
- Request Type (quiz, test, or final).
- Date (date of the QTF that was approved by your professor).
- Time (time of the QTF that was approved by your professor).
- Select the accommodation(s) you would like to utilize for this QTF.
- Additional Note/Reason to Modify (you must enter an explanation regarding why you need to modify your original exam request).
- Select the Update Exam Request link.
How to Cancel a Quiz, Test, or Final
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Select the Alternative Testing link, located within the My Accommodations side bar, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen. If you do not see the Alternative Testing link, please contact SDS.
- Locate the upcoming QTF request(s) for the current term section.
- QTFs will be listed in chronological order.
- Locate the scheduled QTF you would like to cancel.
- Select the Cancel Request link for the QTF you wish to cancel.
- Locate the QTF to be Cancelled section.
- Select the Confirm Cancellation link.
NEXT STEPS
- Cancel any QTFs you no longer wish to take in the SDS Testing Center, if applicable.
- Modify QTF dates in the Rebel Access Student Portal if your instructor changes a testing date for a QTF you have already scheduled.
Alternative Format (Accessible Reading Materials)
Requesting Reading Materials in Alternative Formats (Accessible Reading Materials)
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Select the Alternative Formats link, located within the My Accommodations side bar, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen.
- Once the Alternative Formats link has been selected, check to see that you are in the correct term (i.e. Fall 2022).
- Click Select (on the right-hand side) for each text you need in an accessible format.
- Click the Submit Request button.
Uploading Receipt/Invoice
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Select the Alternative Formats link, located within the My Accommodations side bar, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen.
- Once the Alternative Formats link has been selected, check to see that you are in the correct term (i.e. Fall 2022).
- Locate the Upload Book Receipts section under the list of textbooks listed for your classes.
- To upload your book receipt/invoice, click the Browse button, and select the file that you wish to upload.
- Select the course or courses associated with the book receipt/invoice, and then click the Upload Receipt button.
Download Alternative Formats
- When the Alternative Format is ready for download, you will receive an email instructing you to log into Rebel Access to download the Alternative Format.
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Select the Alternative Formats link, located within the My Accommodations side bar, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen.
- Once the Alternative Formats link has been selected, check to see that you are in the correct term (i.e. Fall 2022).
- Click the red Download Book button next to the book you wish to download.
Communication Access (Deaf and Hard of Hearing)
To request communication access services for non-classroom related interpreting or captioning:
- Log into Rebel Access Student Portal.
- Select Deaf and Hard of Hearing on the left-hand side of the page, under My Accommodations.
- Select Custom Requests in the upper right-hand corner of the profile page.
- Select the green Schedule Custom Request icon.
- Select Non Class Related Request from the drop-down menu under Custom Request Form, and click Continue to Specify Custom Request.
- On the next page, complete the fields under Event Information.
- Click the services needed under Request Type.
- Select any event media or materials that will be used.
- Click Submit Custom Request.
